What You Can Do

As individuals, each of us has the power to make positive changes in the world. Working together, we can be even more successful. Sometimes even one well-written letter or thoughtful comment can result in positive changes. History is full of successful individuals who pushed ahead to save the environment, despite obstacles and disappointments along the way.

Action Alerts: Please visit our alerts page concerning proposed projects and legislation with environmental impacts, to learn how you can participate in public hearings or written comment opportunities.

Contact the News Media: Write a Letter to the Editor The Opinion Page of local newspapers is the most popular, well-read section. Thousands of people read the letters posted there each day, making this an excellent way to raise public awareness of important environmental issues. The more letters the public reads on a given topic, the more attention they will give an issue. Government officials will also pay more attention. Visit the Letters-to-the-Editor page for pointers on writing effective letters.
